Taking Care of our Mental Health By the RevIVe Wellness and Ketamine Team

Is 2020 over yet?  Well, we are more than halfway to 2021 thankfully, and it probably can’t come sooner our mental health may just depend on it. The riots made us forget about COVID-19 for about a week, and with phase 3 underway, it’s refreshing to see more people walking around and eating outside.  Just remember, social distancing should still be practiced and PLEASE let’s continue to wear a mask.  After all, wearing a mask is the most effective way at keeping safe.

Even though things are looking up, we are not out of the woods yet.  We still don’t have a vaccine, the stock market is volatile and certainly isn’t following the economy/making any sense, and COVID-19 is ramping up in the south and western states.  Jobs that have been furloughed have become permanently lost.  It’s an election year, and this may be the most important election of our lifetime.

Coronavirus disease 2019, also known as COVID-19, is a viral disease that originated in China.  Symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, body aches, and cough.  The USA has over 118,000 deaths, the most in the world.  Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading US infectious disease expert and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases, had predicted the coronavirus can kill as many as 240,000 Americans, although that number has come down significantly due to social distancing.

There are no vaccines or treatments for COVID-19, although there are a number of companies that have claimed they have strong data and a possible cure.  Dr. Fauci, feels we may have a vaccine as early as November 2020.  The world hopes he’s right, because with new spiking case numbers, some cities are considering another stay at home order.

The CDC has listed a number of resources for those going through struggles with their mental health.  Here are some of those resources:

Find a health care provider or treatment for substance use disorder and mental health

In the meantime, there are a number of things we can do by ourselves to optimize our mental health.

  • Eating healthy- proteins and healthy fats and minimize processed foods and carbohydrates
  • Exercise- HIIT and cardio, while mixing in yoga to give the body a break
  • Sleeping at least 7 hours a night
  • Minimizing drug use and drinking in moderation
